How to Reset a Skoda Key I just got a message that my infotainment unit was low on battery and has to be replaced. It's not the first time and last time I went to an auto dealer, they replaced it for free, took 2 minutes and told me it would work again. Switch on the ignition and secure the vehicle mechanically. It's best to leave this to a professional locksmith. An EEPROM is an in-built memory that is non-volatile and can be found in various electronic devices, including keys for cars. It stores data, which includes the unique encryption keys or authentication codes that are recognised by your car when you use the key to unlock or start it. These codes are essential because they inform your car that you are the owner of the key and have the right to drive. If your EEPROM is damaged it will cause the keys to not work. The problem is usually caused by pressing the wrong key, or accidentally hitting one of the buttons. You may try to reset it by using a special tool, but this method is not 100% guaranteed to work. It is recommended to hire an expert who has extensive experience in programming automotive keys. To reset your EEPROM you must first remove the Kessy module from the vehicle. This is the module located above the accelerator pedal on the left side of the vehicle. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the single plastic clip that holds it in the position. Then, unplug the electrical connectors. Pull it out. Then, you can access the EEPROM with a SOIC8 or micro pincers connected to the programmer. Once you have all the data, you can save the file and write it back to the EEPROM. To read the EEPROM data, use a program like PonyProg and click Read Device. The EEPROM dump will be displayed as a hex array of characters. There are three distinct values in hex that are the KEY_CODE, key_count, and the V_ARG_ENABLED. You need to change all other Hex values to 00 to “virginize” the chip. Once you have done this, you can flash the chip and restore its functionality. Ignition Method This method involves activating the car's security system with a second key. It might not work on all cars however it is able to reset the key fob when it's not functioning or the battery has gone out. It should work if you have pressed the buttons hard (people often attempt to press the unlock button repeatedly). This method requires you to turn the ignition on and leave it on. Then, mechanically lock the car's drivers door with another key. Next, set the key fob in the lock position and point it towards the transmission transmitter located on the front side of the car above mirror. Press the unlock button for a few minutes.
